
ORIENTATION TO AGRICULTURE
During the first year in agricultural education, the students will learn the basics of the agriculture industry. This first year in the agriculture classroom, the students will walk through what FFA is and the basics of parliamentary procedure and animal systems. They will also get their first look into the Ag Mechanics and shop safety. Each student will be required to start a SAE Project (record book) to complete their first year of records. The students will learn these skills through hands-on activities and vigorous discussions.

BASIC AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS
This is the first year of agricultural mechanics that is offered to the students at Indian Creek. The students will perform various shop activities: ARC welding, torch cutting, woodworking, basic engines. Each student in the course will perform proper shop safety each and every day in the agriculture shop. This course is designed to prepare students for Advanced Agricultural Mechanics or career readiness in their immediate futures.

VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY

This full year course is offered to all students who have completed the first year of Introduction to Agriculture. This course will walk the students through each system of an animal and human. They will learn the bones, muscles, heart and digestion of an animal. They will learn about various career pathways within the animal science aspect of agriculture. These students will learn the human and animal body through projects, hands-on activities and classic methods of agricultural education.

FLORAL DESIGN
(Dual credit opportunity with Kishwaukee Community College)
Students learn about the Horticulture industry from plant identification to how a floral shop functions on a daily basis. They will learn the careers opportunities offered and how to achieve those dreams. The students will learn different styles and flowers to use in situations where floral arrangements are requested. They will physically make various arrangements and be responsible for obtaining some materials for other projects which are seen in floral shops. They will get a hands-on approach and real-world ideals of owning and operating a floral shop.

ADVANCED AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS
This full year course is offered to students in their third or fourth year in the agriculture department. These students will learn the basics of Arc and MIG welding, as well as a wood project and basic electricity knowledge. The students gain a real world application by working through an OSHA approved workbook to learn safety. These students will leave the course with a better understanding of what is needed of them in today's workforce.

HORTICULTURAL LANDSCAPING
(Dual credit opportunity with Kishwaukee Community College)
This courses showcases how students can get involved within the landscaping industry. Students are able to learn proper landscape drawing techniques, principles and design theories revolving around their home or seen landscapes. They receive hands-on work through our school Memorial Garden by planning and work in the garden during the spring months. The students learn with knowledge to be able to further their future home landscapes.
AGRICULTURAL COMMUNICATION & LEADERSHIP
Students learn to communicate with peers and others! These students get a very hands-on feel for public speaking. Throughout the semester, they are asked to perform impromptu, prepared and extemporaneous speeches to full prepare them for any form of career they may have in the future. These students also get a hands-on approach to leadership. They will fully understand what it means to lead a group or organization.


AGRICULTURAL SALES
This course is offered for a semester. Students see the value in being involved with a small business or farm setting. The students learn about commodity trading and market pricing while having to keep track of a specific commodity on the Chicago Board of Trade website. Students also fictionally start a new and improved agricultural business. They see the inter workings of entrepreneurs and speak to local businesses about how they started.

AGRICULTURAL BIOTECHNOLOGY
Students are able to gain a full semester of modern agricultural technology. They are meet with challenges posed to them about the future of GMO farming, erosion issues and modern slaughterhouses. They will be asked to rework a slaughterhouse and how to maintain humanity and ethics while still providing meat products for our worldly consumers.

AGRICULTURAL CONSTRUCTION
Students learn the ins and outs of the agricultural shop. This course is presented as a hands-on view of the agricultural workforce offerings. Students will grasp basic concepts such as carpentry, electricity and small engines. They will focus on building materials and loads of hands-on projects throughout the full year course.
